Buenos Aires: Which Is The Less Expensive Area To Stay In

Submitted by: Lance peters

Buenos Aires has 48 barrios, or neighborhoods. If you are planning a visit to the city, you will have to decide where to stay. When you come to Buenos Aires, what you want to do and how much you can afford for accommodation will probably be the deciding factor as to the best place for you to stay.

Inexpensive accommodation can be as low as $11 per day for a single room apartment. You need to choose the right barrio though.

As in most cities, the neighborhoods range from the up market luxurious down to the somewhat unsavory back streets.

One of these barrios is La Boca. This part of town is not the ideal place for visitors to seek accommodation to stay. However it is very interesting to visit and has a fascinating history. Most tourists are advised to keep to the main streets and to visit during the day time.

La Boca is part of the oldest area of Buenos Aires. It is located near the old port, to the south east of the city. It is famous for its brightly painted buildings and old style of architecture typical of Buenos Aires in days gone by. It has an interesting pedestrian street where the tango is danced, and tango and other Argentinian curios are available for sale. There are also picturesque Old Italian bars.

This part of town has traditionally been the epicenter of uprisings and radical politics. At one time, in the past, the inhabitants of the area tried to secede from the rest of Argentina and raise their own flag. The area is very cosmopolitan with mostly people of European, Mediterranean and North African descent living there.

The barrios of San Crist bal, Caballito, and Boedo, are regarded as good areas with less expensive accommodation. They are among the outer barrios of the city. They are grouped among the working class barrios, but Boedo and San Crist bal, the two areas that run together, have a unique alternative, artistic, even bohemian atmosphere that is starting to emerge again after having disappeared for a long time. Being essentially a young area, in spite of its beautiful old buildings, you will find youth hostels in the area.

Caballito has a residential area of lovely old apartment blocks that have been renovated, in shady streets.

If you are looking for moderately priced rather than cheap accommodation, take a look around and you will find good value for money in almost every one of the barrios. You need to check out some internet sites and you will find really decent apartments to rent in Buenos Aires at quite reasonable prices.

You should check out what an online apartment rental brokers have on offer. Most Buenos Aires apartment rental agencies have a display of photographs in different price ranges and in different barrios, so you can get a good idea of what is available. Sometimes these websites give advice about transport and tours on offer as well.
